Xeon on the 2011 socket.

Hello everyone, I need to upgrade from my Amd phenom ii X4 980 to something WAY BETTER... I can't be waiting 5 hours to render a 15min video, it's not cutting it. So i was looking into getting a new cpu / mobo.

*I currently have a GTX 480 & 550ti[physx] and the standard pc components, nothing special.*

So i was thinking about the 2600k because it's multi-threaded, but then i started looking at the server cpus and found that intel sells Xeon LGA 2011 socket cpus. The one that i was looking at is the E5-2609 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117270 , 30$ cheaper than the 2600k and on paper looks a lot more powerful and less power hungry.
So i came here today to ask Will the xeon E5 cpus work with the normal gaming level motherboards? Also should i go with a more mainstream cpu or should i get something with more power. All i do on this computer is edit video and do some gaming, Bf3 source etc.

- 680w psu
- 16gb ddr3 1333, 4x4gb
- 1tb WD black
- 2x250gb hdd's raid
- cd/dvd drive
- Gtx 480
- Gtx 550ti [physx]
- Antec h2o 620

Note: Also, If i do get a new cpu / mobo i would need a new cpu cooler because this one is really loud, doesn't fit right, and doesn't support LGA 2011.

Thanks community, Hope you can help.

I think for the socket 2011 Xeons you'd need a server motherboard. I built a couple socket 1155 Xeon builds using the hyperthreaded E3 1230 and the E3 1235. I used a GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 and an ASRock Z68 PRO3 GEN3. I paid $216 for the 1230 and $240 for the 1235. The motherboards were in the $125-$150 range.

I'm totally happy with these builds, but plan on getting another GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 to replace the ASRock board. I don't overclock or game much and mainly use them to encode video which they are great at. These things knock the pants off my q6600 and seem to be way more cpu than I will need right now. I like that the 1230 is an 80W cpu too.

Edit: Just ran a passmark cpu benchmark and the 1230 scored 8667 and the 1235 scored 8513... odd that the 1235 scored lower. :??:
