I've been looking around for a while now (started 2 months ago) at the idea of building a dedicated streaming rig. A rig that's only job would be to use a capture card to capture video and audio and run it through OBS.

I've been looking at either getting another i7 or a Xeon processor depending on which CPU would be better for just encoding raw data. I'm only asking this because I've read a lot of conflicting arguments for either or. I understand that the Xeon is a server based enterprise CPU but I like that idea that they generally have more cores and, from what I've been reading, might actually be better for streaming or recording at 1080p@60Fps.

For the rest of the rig.... nothing else really matters about that. I understand how to build computers and will acquire all the necessary parts to make a full finished product. I'm only have some confusion about that CPU's.

If you are doing streaming only i7 is better. But if you are also doing bit of video editing then Xeon may perform better depending on what resolution you are working.
