[SOLVED] Xeon X3470

Hello everyone first post in the forum!
So i would like to spark life to an old system running an Intel i5-650 (1156 socket)
I wonder if i can change it to a Xeon x3470..
I'm worried cause i found articles saying i need ECC memory that i dont have
My specs below:
Motherboard : Gigabyte P55M-UD2
CPU : Intel I5-650
RAM : 2 modules Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600MHZ (KHX1600C9AD3B1)
2 modules Corsair Vengeance Low Profile (CML4GX3M2A1600C9)
Im a newbie so any help is appreciated...

Here is all the CPU that your motherboard will support. Xeon X3470 is not on the list. There are 2 revision (1.0 and 1.1) for Gigabyte P55M-UD2 but it looks like there is no difference for Bios and CPU support list. You probably need to download the bios and update the motherboard first.

My motherboard has the F11 version bios i think its the latest version that exist for the specified motherboard.
Since the CPU isnt listed is it not compatible?

If the cpu is not listed, then it's not compatible (generally). But since this is an older motherboard I think they didn't update the list as the x3480 which has been tested is just a faster clocked x3470:

And it is essentially a twin of the i7-870 which is on the list:

I believe the x3470 has a very high chance of working. And considering the design of the cpu being a twin of the 870, I think there's a good chance you won't need ecc memory either.

If it's cores you're after, you're almost as fast as you can get with the x3470, but if you just need pure single thread speed, you should consider the i5-680. It is a real eye opener in terms of single thread speed:

Should i choose the cores over the single thread speed?
The PC will be used for basic stuff like browsing and probably some mild gaming (league of legends etc)
Also from a quick search Xeon seems to be cheaper than i5 - i7 series.

For basic stuff and games that don't pound 4 cores, the i5-680 will be much faster than the x3470. And it should be cheap too as I've picked mine up for $15 shipped and have 4 of them installed. I usually can't tell the difference between them an i5-2300 or i5-2400.

This cpu is way better than i7-870 / i7-875k / i7-880 have to say, after long testing i can hit 200-210 blck instead of 180-190 only on the i7 lynnfield. If you need help with settings just ask me SokBatz.

My maximum memory speed for i7-875k (best from i7 series) was 2250mhz, with this i can hit 2550mhz on the ddr3 ram.
