I have an Xfinity all in one router/modem, (model TG862G/CT) and I have been having issues with it. Sometimes, when I am connected to the wifi on my device, the wifi stops working, but it is still broadcasting the network. So I disconnect and try to reconnect, but it won't let me connect even though the network shows up. I'm pretty sure it is the wireless router part of the device because the computers that are hooked up directly don't ever have issues. Is this something fixable? Should I just buy a nice wireless router and use that to broadcast instead?

Solution
that and the newer ones/ more $$ are "ac" and have the 5GHz band as well. the last 2 I listed are less expensive and have less features. You should not have any issues with multiple devices one almost any newer routers. Unless you are all torrenting the newest movies at the same time you are triing to watch youtube and play BF4
They are crap... You are better off getting something like the D-Link DGL-5500 or its cousin the DIR-868L and the regular Cable Modem. I've had to do that for a few customers. You also cannot add an extender to it, found that out the hard way and just happened to get a Comcast support guy to admit that they do not allow wifi extenders (wifi to wifi adapters) to function with them...

They sent me one as an "upgrade" and I took it to the nearest Comcast office and exchanged it.

Which one? I know the DGL had issues on release, most are fixed in the latest firmware (I also know someone using it) I do not have any direct experience with the 868L...

What are the reviewers complaints? Do their issues matter in your case...?

the wifi router/gateway/modem that you have now is the all-in-one... Take it into Comcast and ask for just the modem... one for one exchange

you have this one now? http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/setup-a-wireless-network/

you want one from here that is NOT also a router: http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/

Or you can buy your own and not have to pay comcast a monthly fee.
