I have an XFX 270x, and when playing games at high load my temps skyrocket into the high 80s and mid 90s. Using furmark i can reach 100c. I have 2 case fans, one in the front as an intake and an exhaust fan. The intake fan blows right over the GPU too. I checked XFX website because i was going to RMA, but apparently this is normal for these cards? But ive never heard anyone complain about high temps on any other XFX cards. Hell i have a friend with a 280 that runs it at 100% load at around 60c. Help? and thanks in advance.

imo mate absolutely 100% faulty - 100% fan & its still hitting 80c means theres bad contact top the heatpipes/sink
the dd is a fairly decent cooler,at 100% fan speed I wouldnt expect it to get past mid 70's even under furmark testing.

The AMD R9 Series runs HOT...very HOT! I cannot speak from personal experience as I do not have one of those cards, but when I was building my rig I did a lot of research on the Nvidia 900 series vs the R9 series. The R9 series requires more power (for no reason) and runs hotter. I have heard the XFX cards run hotter as well, it also depends on the cooling system on the card and configuration of the case.

If XFX is stating this is normal for their cards, I would believe it.

Hello tru3gam3r,
I have the R9 290 from HIS, the card is overclocked and reach easilly 90°C.
But i think 100°C is too much for a 270X (My sister got one from Gygabite, it run at 75° MAX)

You should tweak your GPU's fan rotation in the Catalyst Control Panel.
Go to AMD Overdrive, and put the maximum temp to 80°C and maximum fan rotation to whatever suit to you, but at least 50%.

Try and let us know 😉

Sorry for my english, but I'm french

I wouldnt like to ser a 270x constantly hit anything above the low 80s.
no way anything over 85c is normal for any model 270x imo unless your caseflow is very very bad or there is an inherent hardware problem with the card.
over 90c is dangerously high,100c is likely to burn the card out before much longer!!

download msi afterburner ,set the fan speed to full, run a furmark test.
if youre still hitting same temps as the stock fan speeds then to me you have an hardware issue with the card

what model is it exactly.

It is this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150686

I already have a custom fan curve in MSI Afterburner to make it run at full speed over 80c. I might have to call XFX.

There isnt a max temperature setting in overdrive. I already have the fan set up to go to 100% when over 80c.

Then there is certainly a problem. Even if XFX says those temps are normal, nothing should heat up that fast. I would put in for a RMA or call XFX at the very least.
