Comes in a funky gun case

Since XFX is not on Nvidia’s launch partner list for Fermi, the company has decided to do a special version of the fastest card available, the Radeon HD 5970 X2 and call it Black Edition.

The card should be the fastest to ever launch, comes with 4GB memory with higher clocks that you used to see and it comes with XFX overclocking tool for some even higher clocks.

Since we are talking about big guns, the card comes in a special GPU case and the card will fit in the gun-box like a magazine.

The card will come in limited quantities, will enjoy superb support via live function and the users will get a special carrying bag. Let's not forget the 6 mini Displayports that can drive a 6-screen Eyefinity setup.

Accessories bundle includes:

3x MiniDP (Male) to DP (Female) adapter
1x MiniDP to HDMI Dongle
2x MiniDP to SL-DVI Dongle
1x CrossFire bridge
1x QIG Quick installation guide
1x driver CD installation guide **new driver CD format
1x Black Edition Door Hanger (Quick Access for Technical Support)
1x Exclusive Black Edition case badge
1x Black Edition sticker
1 x XFX OC TOOL

Actually it does have to do with NV, they did it to break Nv's lack of GPU shipments to them. Also this card is basically a 5870 X2. I much prefer when they put X2 at the end, instead they followed Nv's crumby and confusing higher series naming to trick the consumer.

A none techy consumer wouldn't know it was dual GPU.

No, this has nothing to do with NV.. hehe I don't know why many just make up assumptions and then beleive them. XFX was going to release that card regardless of FERMI. The reason XFX jumped ship was because NV did not like the fact that XFX was a major AMD partner. They could not reconcile their differences and now XFX will only supply low end NV products(until the contract is over). So thanks to NV being a-holes about this whole situation, we are now left without the awesome XFX 4 series...

As far as the x2 goes, you can call it a 5870 x2 if you'd like but it is far away from being a 5970 x2 😉

So yes the tiltle is misleading since it would be virtually impossible to have a 5970 x2 at this point in time.

How is it confusing. Higher numbers = better card. The only way it would be confusing is if people couldn't figure out why they can't do a Tri/QuadFire HD5970 because that'd be 6/8 GPU's; though if someone did that (in other words, spent $2500 on graphics without any research), maybe they deserve it?

nice one ;]]

A point is still a point. It is a scheme with in itself. What 5870s X's 2 isn't a higher number? Come on.

So people trying to get the best they can, but unfortunately they dont know hardware that well? they deserve it? Come on. We were all square one as well.

When Nv did it with the 295 lol u should've seen the uproar, but I guess ATI doing it changes things? lol😉

Come on fair is fair.

Then again I'm very picky. I miss the XT, pro GTS days. Where slight overclocks wouldn't use OC, they would use car names😛

THat a scheme in itself but for some reason a 9800 XT sounds alot more power than an HD 9800 lol

Agreed, both companies have had retarded naming schemes (ATI's XT, XTX, HD, X, nVidia's GT, GTS, GTX, MX, skipping to GTX400), however the only reason people go against nVidia more is because they've rebranded old cards, which IMHO is very cruel and deceiving. Though that's in the past now. The transition to 5870x2->5970 is indeed a change, but it's not too deceptive.

Interesting posts, on the one hand if people don't do their research they get what they deserve but on the other hand rebadging is cruel and deceiving, although if you did some research then you wouldn't be deceived because you would know what had been rebadged...

Yes mm, Nvidia is excused for it rebadging nonsense now. :sarcastic:

I'm just saying. I dont know squat about cars, indeed I do research but it only goes so far I can't understand it like a mechanic. We see these cards in terms of mechanics. If we dont understand EVERYTHING, we only know the tip of the iceberg.

Remember if Computers dont interest you, it will be alot harder to understand what your buying.

I'm at the same time pissed about the 500$ 5870 Eye6, since I think it wont be able to game well unless pushing 2 of those cards.

I think a 5970 eye6 would've been a much better option, since your already paying for top end, u wont see ppl complaining about price.

If people don't do the research, they get what they get. Renaming is indeed cruel and deceiving, because it's fooling customers to think that the card is better in some way. In any situation, research helps you get what you pay for; is that interesting? :??:

I just felt that the points put across in those posts cancelled each other out, that's all.

Absolutely, which is why I get a bit cheesed off with the fan boy ranting about the rebadging (and usually getting it wrong to boot) rather than educating people as to what was rebadged and how to tell the differences if there are any, the the 3xx series being a prime example of that.

Yeah, i got suckered back with actual arrival of fermi. It wasn't a huff, just a general dislike for your obvious bias, and I am no less annoyed by you, but a bit more willing to put up with it to take part in the good discussions on the forum. It is surprising to see a moderator allowed to be such a fanboi, but I am guessing your either high enough up in the forum staff heirarchy that you get to represent the THF staff so poorly without reprecussion, or there is general apathy towards the quality of moderation anyhow. Either way, it shouldn't disuade me from interacting with the people who aren't fanboys, nor keep me from taking jabs at those who are such blatant fanboys.

Are you done with the obfuscation yet? Perhaps man up and admit that you are ignorantly slanted?

Jofa, it's alright. Each man is entitled to his own opinion. The only reason I'd ever be against someone like him is if he abused his position as mod (Deleting ATI threads), however IIRC, the thread he removed was full of trolls/flames/bashing.

You know and understand so little it's beyond funny.

XFX had a 2-part press release. The announcement of the fancy case edition 5970 was one part. Thats how I read it. The anti-NV myth's spammed about is getting rather old.
Yeah , I know , its justified. Thougt this was a interesting stat.
