Hello,

First of all I'd like to say that I've only recently discovered this site and it has made my life much easier.

I'm currently in the process of building a new pc.

I'm going with:
i5 3570k
ASUS P8z77-V LK
G.Skill 2x4 GB DDR3 1600

So my next step is to get a graphics card.

I was a bit confused because based on the graphics card hierarchy on here, an HD 7970 is supposed to be a tier above a GTX 670. However, through searching the forums, people seem to be arguing otherwise.

As I was going through my search, I found two great deals on both cards.

Galaxy GTX 670 ~ $330 after rebate:

XFX HD 7970 ~ $360 after rebate:

I'm looking for overall performance as I usually play a variety of games at various resolutions.

I apologize, I edited it.

Yeah, I think the difference ($30) is justified in the difference of performance + games bonus...

also the 7970 is a bigger card and i think needs more power then a 670 i would go for a 670 just based on how well nivida brings out their drivers amd are just catching up but nividia still wins the cake for not only for the gaming needs but the cuda cores and such come in handy when video editing and anything else on your pc that needs processing power in that kinda area

For the sake of learning, could you explain to me how you came the conclusion?

I initially thought the gtx 670 would be better because of the higher core clock
