XFX GeForce 240 1Gb DDR3 on 400w psu?

My specs:
Amd Phenom 9650 Quad @ 2.3ghz NOT oc'd
3 Gb ddr2
1 IDE HDD with a 6mb/s transfer
1 External USB HDD
Mobo MSI 785gtm-e45 with a radeon hd 4200 intergrated
psu some 400w that came with my case

Need to know is this gpu will run without making me throw out my psu and if not what would be a good graphics card for the money.

what are the specs on the 400W PSU that came with your case? Wattage alone is meaningless as there is a wide range in 400W PSUs, some can deliver 400W easily, some stress out at only 250W. If you post the load table from the side of your PSU or its make and model it would help.

Should be able to do it, it seems to be able to handle 27A from its 12V rails which is pretty good for a cheap 400W PSU.

All right cool, and what would you say would be the most powerful gpu I could put on it?

I would go for one of the ATI 5xxx cards, they are lower power than their nvidia counterparts which is what you need for that PSU. A 5750 is probably the strongest you could run on that PSU but it might be a bit close to the limit if the PSU is a few years old so i would stick with a 5670 which does better than a GT 240 while using the same power.
