XFX HD 4770 or Gainward 9800GT?

Hello guys! I am planning on buying a new computer at www.komplett.se, its an swedish site so you probabaly wont understand anything. My new computer specs are:

*Intel Core™ 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz Socket LGA775 1333 MhZ
*Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2 4GB Kit w/two matched Value Select 2048MB
*Corsair Powersupply 650W
*ASUS P5Q SE2, P45, Socket-775 DDR2, ATX, GbLAN, ICH10, PCI-Ex(2.0)16
*500 gb HDD

But I came accross a doubt, what graphics card should I buy? There are only a few to choose from, the two I selected are undoutably the best ones in the list they are:

*XFX HD 4770 512MB GDDR5 - price 1.145kr
OR
*Gainward 9800GT 1GB GDDR3 - price 1.150kr

I know that the 9800GT has more memory but the 4770 has GDDR5. And I know that the maker of the 4770 is better, and has a better cooler too. But again the 9800 has awsome memory. Any expert tips anyone? Thanks

well, if you get any of those you will have a huge bottle neck, the cpu is much stronger then then either of those so i would recommend either an ati 4890 or a nividia 275GTX.

What exactely do you mean by that? That the system will be slow or something? But I dont see why it could be a problem. Sorry idk what bottle neck is lol.

The 4770 is the better of the two, I'm pretty sure.

Don't worry about bottlenecking, it's impossible to do in that scenario.

The weakest part of your system is the graphics though; if you can spare it get a nice 4870/90.

bottle neck is when one part of the system is much slower then the other.
in your case i would recommend a slower cheeper cpu and a stronger GPU (if your main purpose for this PC is gaming.

Of the two the Radeon 4770 is generally faster. The Radeon 4850 is a little faster and generally a little cheaper than the 4770 though. It's only cavet is that it runs a bit hotter and uses more power too. Considering the current state of things it may be a good idea to just spend a little more and go with a Radeon 4870 or a GTX 260.

According to the charts at Toms, the 4770 and the standard 9800gt are about neck and neck. Though, the chart doesn't show a 1gig version of the 9800gt (i dont think it would make a huge difference).

since performance is about the same, we could look at other things...

Power: The 4770 uses less than the 9800gt, though with your high quality PSU there, it wouldn't really make a difference.

Heat: The 4770 does produce less heat, though if you have parts like the ones you've listed i would imagine your case isn't half bad either, so heat may not really be a concern.

Overclocking: Because the 4770 is a smaller nm chip, it tends to have more overhead and will more than likely (because it differs chip to chip) OC better.

What really matters? : They are about the same, the 4770 shines a little brighter because it is newer. What i would say it comes down to is do you have a preference to ATi over Nvidia, what is the cost difference, and what brands (IE warranty).

If i had the choice between the two, i would take the one with the better brand that offered the better warranty.

*also to note, since your MoBo won't support Xfire or SLi, i left those out, but if it did that would of course need to be taken into consideration.

ASUS Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express 2.0, 2xDVI, HDMI, HDCP [info] -142.06 <---- My Personal opinion, the 4850 is the best card, the brand choice is just brand loyalty, never had a problem with any of my asus products.

Thanks! I have a ASUS motherboard too, never gave me any problems. The HD 4850 seems to be a good card so ill buy it, thanks +D
