Xfx hd 6770 cross fire vs one xfx hd 7770

hello all, i am currently running two xfx hd 6770 video cards in crossfire mode. should i stick with them and get the xfx hd 7770 video card, and eventually get another for crossfire? i have no issues with my configuration now, i am able to play any game i throw at my rig without any signs of a struggle, but the price's are coming down on the other cards so i am thinking about it.
i am running the sabertooth 990fx motherboard with the amd fx8150 cpu, with 32 gigs of ram and a 750 watt power supply.

Prices always will get down
Probably few months left before 8XXX radeon series .
Also 7850 just became cheaper and it can be more interesting buy then 7770 cross

6770 and 7770 can't do CF together.

6770 CF is superior to a single 7770 in performance by a large margin, but it might be more stutter-ridden and thus less smooth in some cases as a result of being a lower end VLIW5 CF setup.

I don't see why you would upgrade when you're not having trouble unless you sell your 6770s for say around $100 each and buy a Radeon 7850 or even better, a discounted Radeon 7870 to get a considerable performance upgrade while not costing much money, if any at all, and also decreasing power consumption.

Radeon 88xx is supposedly launching before the end of 2012, but other than rumors, IDK when they will arrive and I've read even less about the rest of 8xxx.

two 6770's is about like a 6950 or even 6970 in some games, so a single 7770 would be a huge, huge downgrade.

I think you are looking at something like a 7950 or better if you want a single card that is a meaningful upgrade.


6770's don't even sell for $100 new, so you will be lucky to net $70 each out of them. Moving to a 7850 or anything else in the sub $250 range is going to be a minor upgrade for most games.

Okay, thanks to the reply. I was thinking about an upgrade because I thought the 6770 cards were a low end card, something to help get me going on my build. But if what I have now is better than than the 7770 card I will hold off. I was actually pretty impressed when I got the first 6770 card that I bought the second.

Meh, $100 might be a little optimistic for USA right now, but you guys get the point. I was thinking in Canada there, my bad.

5770 pricing being lower than 6770 pricing doesn't seem relevant here. I also doubt that $50 is optimistic since that's not consistent with what I'm seeing and I just checked. $50 isn't even realistic, it's below realistic for the 5770 and the 6770 in the USA, at least that's how it is on Ebay.

I've watched many of the sales. They aren't going for only $50.

Regardless, this is a nearly pointless discussion.

OP, point is that if you're already happy with what you have, you have no need to upgrade and if you're not or you want to upgrade anyway, we've now told you what you're best options are and the Radeon 7770 plays no part in the best options, not that you couldn't buy it anyway fi you wanted to.

Thanks to all for the info,I was thinking the 7770 was better simply because of the higher model number, but after reading all the options I did notice that my over clock settings are better than the 7770 clock settings. I almost spent 150.00$ on a card that would not have been better and I appreciate all the comments. Registering for this forum was the best thing I have done....... Thanks again to all

hello blazorthon, i got lucky and won a couple hundred dollars on a scratch off, so i followed youre advice and i picked up the radieon 7870 2 gig card, the ghz edition and WOW!! what a game changer. now i have two xfx hd 6770 cards for sale.

a single 6770 is around 30% slower than 7770, so two 6770's will be significantly faster
