XFX HD 7700 Continuous crashes

Hi,

I have recently built my first PC, everything went fairly well aside from a graphics issue i have had from the start. I am using a XFX HD 7700 card with the latest CCC 13.4 driver and when i go to play farcry 3 i cant even get past the opening cut scene without it crashing a dozen times. i know its the graphics card crashing because sometimes windows gives me an eror report saying your graphics driver crashed but successfully recovered. my temps are good, all drivers are up to date, i turned the graphics down to low in main menu before i even launch the game and it still crashes.

i had this same issue with path of exile at first as well but it seems to be working fine at the moment. it does however lag out at times when there a lot going on and im not sure if thats my network connection or a bottleneck. now that i think of it i havent ever noted what my FPS is when it lags out like that but ill post back on that.

ive searched around the forums here and have found some similar topics but all were outdated and never had an answer.

someone else mentioned it may be the ram? after looking at my mobo's QVL my RAM is not on the list although everything else seems to be working fine with it, could this be the issue?

PSU is a 650W corsair, so im sure theres enough power for it.

im no pro but i am capable, any of your tips or info will be appreciated.

My first and primary solution is to make sure your graphics card has all the power connectors firmly plugged into it. I'm guessing this is a connection problem, as when it goes from the lower clocked version of itself for general office based tasks to the high state, it consumes more power. It will do this as games launch or shortly into them, depending on what kind of game. I'm guessing that when it starts sucking more power, there is a problem and it crashes.

The other thing to look for is the temperature of the graphics card. If it goes too high, which might be because of you getting a bad model or the heatsink sitting even a MM off from where it should be, there could be massive heat spikes. Make sure it's not overclocked from you fiddling around too much. Those are secondary things that could cause it. MSI afterburner can be used to check the temperature. My XFX never really went over 65 degrees C, since those cards don't normally get that hot in the first place. However, checking to make sure is never a bad thing.

Make sure all the connections are firmly plugged into the graphics card and updating your CCC drivers to the latest version wouldn't be a bad idea, 13.10 beta or the 13.9.

I will try and re-seat the card and plugs to make sure everything is set correctly.

Temp has never been an issue, whole system runs cool.

Its been doing this for a while, so last night i tried using the AI Suite software thats part of my MOBO (ASUS M5A99x) which has an auto OC feature. i thought maybe it wasnt getting enough power so i used this auto tune feature and OC'd it to the "fast" option. there are two options "fast" and "extreme" but i didnt want to push it. ill revert this again tonight and try your ideas.
