XFX HD 7770 - Display Turns of playing Dead Space 3

Hello People

Complete noob here, I have been having severe difficulties running my HD 7770 1g core edition. I just recently started playing Dead Space 3, and just 5-15 into the game, the monitor shuts off displaying a blue screen. I then have to restart the pc because display refuses to start up again.

Gigabyte P67A-ud4
Intel i7-2600K
4gb DDR3
XFX R7770 - AMD Radeon HD 7770 1gb w/ ghost thermal technology( not sure what this means).
Power Supply is Seasonic 620W.

GPU clock runs at 1095.0 Mhz
GPU Memory runs at 1245.0 Mhz
Fan speed = 20%
The temp is 42C when the display suddenly shuts off.

GPU-z Log:The GPU clock and memory instantly hit 0 and e GPU temperature spiked to 511C RIGHT before I had to restart the pc.

The games run on highest possible settings and the fan noise never increases. Everything is factory settings and NO OC. Any help would be appreciated.

I know this might sound silly, but have you checked to make sure that you have the monitor cable (hdmi or dvi) running directly to the video card? It almost sounds like you have it going to the motherboard instead with such a load load temp and fan usage on the card.

If that is the case, you are easily overheating your system using the integrated graphics on your intel processor. Check and make sure you have your monitor wired to your videocard on the back of the case and not the motherboard.

Its ok, i appreciate the help. The HDMI directly connects from the video card to the monitor. The game runs flawlessly with no problems or any lag whatsoever so it cant be in the integrated graphics (intel HD 3000). I try reconnecting the hdmi to another monitor right after the problem occurs but still get a blank screen. Ultimately the only way around the problem is to reboot the system. Again, this only occurs when Im running Dead Space 3. On other games, ie. skyrim, fear 3, farcry...I haven't experienced anything like this.

Since you seem to be quite astute to checking issues over, might I suggest downloading open hardware monitor. It is an open source temp and usage program that monitors every useful piece of hardware in your system. You can even enable a gadget to monitor actively while in game.

At this point, I would begin by updating your graphic drivers if you haven't already since this is a new game. Disable any overlocks that have been done on the card as well. Since this is game specific, I would not fear that there is a fault in your card.

Hello everyone!

I have the same issue with my GTX295 in Dead Space 3. I ran a lot of benchmarks (OCCT, MemTest86,sterss CPU and GPU in the same time) and games and everything is perfect, but in DS3 is something wrong. Game crash and I have black screen and I cant't do anything ( I have to restart my computer ), 2 times i have also BSOD nvlddmkm.sys. I reinstalled display drivers and shut off multigpu options - it didn't help. Last time I play about 2 hours and game didn't crash.

GPU temp below 76C in max load

No OC

We have the same motherboards and processors, maybe it's samething wrong with they?

Hi, I'm getting the same problem as this also occurs in DS3. I have the same gfx card (Radeon 7770). I get a black screen a couple hours into the game and only option is reboot. I'd still get sound from within the game - I just can't see anything... At first I thought my gfx card was overheating, but I checked my gpu temp an hour into the game and it would hover around 46C...

Another interesting thing was that when the screen blacked out, I get a 3 short beeps coming from my speakers and it would repeat those 3 beeps... not sure where the source of those beeps are coming from. I checked if it was from my BIOS but I didn't see any settings pertaining to beeps. Perhaps you can help me.

I think I found a solution. I changed the compatibility settings of the exe file to run in windows XP mode. Didn't get any black screens during gameplay.

Sry for awfully late response. I have yet to fix the issue COMPLETELY BUT I have made reasonable progress. I have read that people are experiencing this in full screen but it still crashes in windowed. It is also not PSU issue WHATSOEVER. The card does not require much power.
...SO

1. Theres been some remedy in rolling back to 12.6 catalyst. This might not work for everyone.
2.Underclocking to possible 1000/1125 mhz has been stable thus far.
3. In CCC, INCREASE THE POWER SETTINGS TO 10%.

From what i understand, this is a driver issue. hopefully i can provide further update.

Thats good, its worked for me to. It did close once while playing far cry 3. Have you experienced any problems since then?

i did actually still have some problems how ever i found that the problem was either a turbo graphics setting i had enabled in the bios, or enabling Vsync

I would definitely try increasing CCC settings to 10%. ABSOLUTELY No problems since then whatsoever.

Update your graphic card drivers. If you are using Nvidia, download its drivers from here http://www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html and if its And if its ATI, get the drivers from here http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx .

Try turning off SLI / Crossfire before launching the game next time.

Go to your graphic card’s control panel, turn off one of the two GPUs and try running the game on any one GPU.

Check your DirectX version, Re-install or Update DirectX to most recent version.

If you still facing the same problem, Disable V-sync, disable Antivruses, disable Windows defender, anti-aliasing and filtering, also disable all unwanted background process from task manager and run the game.

If above all steps wont fix the problem, simply go to Game’s installation folder (For Dead Space 3 it is located at C:\Games), right click the game setup.exe, go to properties, and change its compatibility to Windows XP SP3. Make sure to check mark ‘Disable Desktop Composition’ from the compatibility tab.

Make use of 3danalyzer and try running the game in Windowed Mode in case your config is as low as the minimum requirement mentioned above.
