So I recently bought an r9 280x and it's running pretty hot. Looking at the cooler size and the heatpipes, I thought the gpu would run a lot cooler but that's not what I got. Under load (Just cause 3 on very high, 1440p, capped at 60, runs at 60) it runs at about 85-88 and then it starts to throttle. Should I be concerned? Thanks

The case has terrible airflow. The computer I originally just scrapped together a while ago and the case is an asus stock case. Just cause 3 does run that well except after a while i run into throttling. I have a wifi card under it which I am compeltely fine with removing because I don't need it. I'm not sure if that would solve the problem or not. There is no under case ventilation and the psu is above the computer, could I solve this problem with adding more fans?

Thank you for your solution, I opened my case up, and immediately I was running it at very high maxed settings and at load it was only 65 degrees. It's the case

Try improving the case airflow adding some fans, this is the most common configuration:

You usually put one or two fans in the front of the case to pull some fresh air into the case, and another fan in the rear takes the heat out.

My case is built in a strange way. The only part that takes out air is the psu fan. I have a frontal intake in the sense that i can mount a fan, like theres screw holes and air holes and everything, but the actual case doesn't have it, it doesn't have a removable front either. so I have no idea what to do. But I do have to change something because having hot air run through a power supply is by no means a good idea at all. I'll probably just order a new case
