Xigmatek HDT-S693 opinions/alternatives

Hi, I've been running my E8400 at stock speed with stock cooler for about 6 months now and I was thinking about overclocking this baby a bit so I want to replace the stock cooler.

I have an "old" Xaser V2000 casing with side fans that would probably prevent me from using the bug 120mm HSFs so I was considering the Xigmatek HDT-S693. Any opinions on that cooler (yes I looked at frostytech, this why I ended-up with this option) or any alternatives offering as good price/performance/noise ratio?

Are you talking about the S963? I would go for the SD-964 as it performs very close to the famous HDT S1283. I've had both in this machine on my Q6600. The SD964 does get loud at higher rpms but the only time I experienced this was when stress testing.

The SD-964 has 4 6mm heatpipes whereas the 963 only has 3. I also see they have a S983 which looks interesting. It has 3 8mm heatpipes.

Yes, the S963 (bad copy/paste from frostytech). I was considering the S963 over the SD964, just because it produces 6-7dBa less noise for a 2-3C temperature difference (based on frostytech's tests).

i have the S963, and frostytech is retarded. i can barely hear it at max rpm... its like only 5 C worse than the 1283 and where i am (i have bought both) its lke half the price so

Zenthar,

At the Xiggy site, both models seem to have the same fan when you look at the numbers. http://www.xigmatek.com/product/aircooling.php

If both models now have the same fan, the SD-964 would be a no-brainer. You could send Xigmatek an email and see if their site is accurate about the fans, but they are kinda slow getting back. The SD-964 also has the option to add another fan easily. I should have some screenshots lying around on the harddrive if you want a look at how it performs on a Q6600.

Right now at NewEgg, the SD-964 would be 17.99 after rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010110574%2050012151&bop=And&CompareItemList=N82E16835233001%2CN82E16835233014

The guy that wrote the temp guide here at Tom's has a SD-964 (CompuTronix). http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/profile-123317.htm He might be able to provide more insight on the cooler.

If you can, I would also look into reviews of the new S983 Nepartak as it's new on their site. Xigmatek used to make a S983 in the past but now it is the OCZ Vendetta. The old S983 http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2219 and the Vendetta http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2220
