I have an i5 7500 on an msi z270-a pro, and was hooked up with 2x8g corsair vengeance ddr4 3000 by a buddy. I know the cpu is only rated at 2400 so currently my ram is down clocked correct? Can the cpu handle being OCed to 3000 with xmp? Would it really even be worth it and make a noticeable difference? If so how does one do it?

Full build:
i5 7500
Msi z270-a pro
Gtx 1050 ti
2x8g corsair vengeance ddr4
Enermax revolution duo 500w
Toshiba 1tb hdd

Slowly upgrading an old prebuilt I got for free, haven't gotten around to buying an ssd yet.

Solution
Yes, you can set up the XMP profile in the BIOS to oc the RAM to 3000mhz, and the fastest RAM ( speed) is good for the Kaby Lake too.

intel are much easier in term of memory overclocking.
your cpu is very capable handing that speed, i think it will strange at speed close to 3600 mhz. 3000 mhz should be perfectly fine. and if you experience any issue, just take away the xmp.
