New build. Decided to go with AMD after 15 years of Intel builds. I was hesitant to go with XMP RAM but everyone seemed to say it wouldn't be an issue. The issue was that I wanted white from Corsair and the only expo RAM they make in the titanium is black/grey.

So, there were no issues until I went into the bios and attempted to bump the speed on my ram to 6000mhz. Then it would not POST and eventually brought me back to the BIOS. I set it back to default and was able to boot normally.

So, how do I get this RAM running at 6000?

Specs
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX X870-A GAMING WIFI
CPU: Ryzen 9800X3D
RAM: CORSAIR Dominator Titanium 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) Desktop Memory Model CMP64GX5M2B6000C30W

I went hunting for ram that had AMD's E.X.P.O advertised on it but was a close match to the memory QVL for my motherboard that I used to build an AM5 platform.

What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard? Rams populating slots A2 and B2?

Since it's a new system, don't you have a return window for the ram kit? If you have that window, then replace them with a kit that's on the memory QVL on the motherboard's support site or one that has AMD's E.X.P.O advertised on the packaging.

Running the latest BIOS.... updated today before doing anything else in the build. Version 0803. A2 and B2. This kit is on the QVL.

Did you just bump the speed to 6000mhz without setting the voltage or cl timings??? if you didn't choose the XMP setting enabled (I think Asus AMD mobo should still have those one click enable XMP profile), you are just putting it at 1.1v at 6000mhz where the kit spec DDR5 6000 at 1.4v, that alone could stop it from working

In the AI tweaker menu I chose the DOCP 1 memory profile which brought it to 6000mhz. I am sure this was not the correct way to do it since that is likely for EXPO? This whole AMD world is essentially new to me! thanks!

First, look at available Motherboard bios updates. They often include fixes for ram compatibility.
Some motherboards translate XMP well, Others may not.
Regardless, you can specify the required ram settings yourself in the bios.
speed, timings, and voltage.
To run at 6000 you may have to increase the ram voltage higher than the spec on the sticks themselves.

Anyone have an "Overclocking RAM for Dummies," link? I think I am going to attack this manually.... been a long long time so consider it a new topic for me ha.

Overclocking ram these days is not likely to be productive.
Ram chips are binned and the better chips are used in faster kits that can be sold for more.

Technically, ram faster than the base speed is overclocked by using higher voltage than the base ram requires.

If you are a hardware fiddler, possibly you can do better than the specs, but don't count on it.

Your 6000 speed ram should run at that speed by specifying the required specs in the motherboard bios.
Some ram kits have the settings as EXPO for amd systems, others use XMP.

I have not use ASUS boards for literally a decade... so can't tell exactly, but you should check the DOCP profile for the main 4 timings are the same as listed on the ram kit plus voltage. If it still didn't boot you might want to manual tinker with voltages or try DOCP2 to see if it works, otherwise you may need to replace the kit.
