XMP with Xeon 2620 v3

Hello,
I just tried to set overclock to my set up, but things are not working so far.
A couple of questions:
1) Can my Xeon work with HyperX RAM at a speed higher than 1866? Does XMP (which is disabled) has any role on this?
2) How to overclock this Xeon CPU, any baby steps I should follow?

1) I would think so But I am actually not positive on that. XMP mode will set your RAM to run at its advertised speeds, just turn it on and restart and see if the system boots.

2) Overclock the xeon? If you wanted to overclock an unlocked i7 would've been a better choice. You can overclock the xeon but it has to be done using the base clock which also changes the memory speed along with a few other things so it can be more difficult to get a stable OC via the base clock than it would be just using the multiplier on an i7. Then after all that work you are likely going to find you can only get a few hundred mhz out of it. I cant find any good guides for x99 xeon overclocking and I have never done it on X99 so I dont know how to talk you through it.

Thanks Dunlop0078, I am afraid I will have to choose a suitable i7 for that purpose. Any i7 recommendations, given the rest of my setup?
