Hello
I connect to Internet thru a LAN. At times when it is off, I try using the
dialup. I disabled the LAN, and tried the dialup, but the moment it got
connected, Xp rebooted. It happened 3-4 times in succession. Later I tried
to re-enable the LAN connection, but after enabling it, again Xp rebooted.
Though after that the LAN stayed enabled, I am wondering what wrong am I
doing? (Earlier, when this problem did not exist, till I disabled the LAN
connection, my downloads with dialup did not start, hence I have used this
step)

In the past, I've come across this when the default connection is dial
up. I think it may be to do with the way Win handles connectivity over a
dial up link. I just make sure that dial up is *not* my default and that
"never dial a connection" is checked in the Connections tab of IE. This
allows you to use both your WAN connections and dial up - just disable
the WAN link when you use dial up.
You will have to use your dial up connections manually eg make the
connection fire up whatever mail or browser s/w independently - it is
probable that you have the dial-ups selected as the default.
