Hi,

I am currently fighting a devious acer aspire 5000.
Somehow, it is crashing at the login screen. sometimes I can get logged in first, in which case it will crash soon after. Most times it will not even respond to the power button (yes, I am aware you have to hold it in)
It will, however, boot into safe mode with no problems.
I recently uninstalled:
some macaffee security program
norton something or other
various search bars etc

and installed:
itunes (the customer wanted it for some reason...)
spybot
avast

and then turned off several startup items.

Now that I think of it, it's probably norton. I gotta go find that removal tool...

But, i've been fighting it for a while, and any ideas would be great.

Repair the OS by booting from the windows CD.

You can boot into safe mode - Nothing there (restore, eg, helps you out ? )

Booting from CD - Are you choosing the correct "r" option; There is one for Recovery console, and one for Repair.
