XP Home login failure

Hi

I'm trying to resolve a problem with an XP home machine. It boots fine, and
the user selection screen appears, but whenever any user is selected, it is
logged in and immediately logs itself back out again. This happens with any
user including the Administrator. Running in Safe Mode or Debug Mode makes
no difference.

Something may have been installed on it which is causing this happen (it's
not my machine). I'd be grateful for any ideas on how I can regain control
of it to try and find out what's happening. Or is it going to be a
reinstall?

If you can't login you can't fix anything.

David, you may wind up doing a Repair Install but check here first
