XP install on T43 Thinkpad

I have a strange issue. I have a Thinkpad T43. I put a new install of Windows XP on it. (I know the questions will be why but I just want it.) I have all the network LAN and wireless drivers installed and they are all working. The only option is Internet Explorer. Clicking that gives a full error page that THE PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED. I type google in the address bar and a search does come up which means I think it is receiving internet? but clicking on the google link goes right back to that error page. Anything typed in the address bar comes up with a bing search but clicking on any of the links gives the error. I'm thinking explorer is outdated? but I just need to get firefox running so I can download things I need. Help!!

Download the Firefox install to a CD or USB drive on another machine and use that for the install.
