Hi

I just built the following PC and i made some tweaks in the bios to change boot sequence etc... and when i tried to install XP Pro, it gave the following error:

....

STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XF748E0BF, 0XF78DA208, 0XF78D9F08)

pci.sys - Address F748E0BF base at F7487000, Datestamp 3b7d855c

The system spec is:

Gigabyte EP43-S3L mobo
Q6700 quad CPU
Corsair twinX 4gb ddr2 8500
1tb samsung sata drive

Any help appreciated...

Are you using an old pre-SP1 disk? It looks like you need at least SP2 to support a PCI-E graphics card. Without at least SP1 you'll only be able to use 137GB of that 1TB drive also.

I would download SP3 and slipstream it into your XP installation disk.

Better yet, download the 64-bit Windows 7 RC when it's released on May 5th. A nice system like that deserves a modern OS.

It's also a good idea to manually set the RAM speed/timings/voltage to the manufacturers specs in the BIOS and testing the RAM with Memtest86+ before installing the OS.
