Every time I try to load XP on my laptop it gets to the point that only 35
minutes remaining then freezes up. The hard drive was reformatted every
time I tried to load XP. Machine specs are: PIII-700, 256MB RAM, 30GIG HDD.
CDROM is external made for the laptop-not PCMIA or USB.
Any recommendations?
TIA,
David

<crosspost slashed>

Run the (dell) diags on the hard disk first, then on the entire system if
the disk is found to be okay.

They can be downloaded from the support website.

I'd reset the BIOS to factory defaults and ensure I had the latest BIOS.
I've installed it numerous times on my Inspiron 1200, which is the exact
same machine.

this reply only to alt.sys.pc-clone.dell where it was read.

remove it from the docking station if you have one and remove any usb or
pcmcia devices (other than the cd rom of course).

Thanks, I removed the battery and that was the problem. Good to go.
