Hi

I have recently built a sandy bridge pc, to save money i bought a copy of windows 7 pro upgrade edition since i have a copy of XP Pro to upgrade from.

Once i had completed my build i tried to install XP but kept getting blue screen errors so trying to be cleaver i tried installing Windows 7 straight up, it worked except for the product key, it is currently running on the 30 phase.

I have tried to enter the product key but it refused saying that it cannot be excepted as the key is for an upgrade which is true, so i am now looking to wipe windows 7 and start again with XP, then upgrade to windows 7 as i should have originally.

When trying to install XP Pro i first received the Stop Error "STOP: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xF748E0BF, 0xF78DA208, 0xF78D9F08)" which i researched and fixed by slipstreaming SP3 into my XP disc.

I now receive the Stop Error "STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)", i have researched this and the common solution is to go into the BIOS and change the SATA setting to either ATA or IDE, i have done this and changed it to IDE as i don’t have a ATA option.

This has not fixed this error, i have searched the forums for a solution and cannot find anything and since my system is running fully in windows 7 I don’t see it being a hardware issue, can you help?

Apologies for rambling
Thanks
Ashley
