My Cable Modem was fried in a storm earlier this week. Company
replaced it Friday, a Motorola Surfboardsb5100. This is connected to
a 4 port DLink router. My Desktop is plugged into router and I got it
working after resetting the router, fast internet connection. On the
other side of the room is my girlfriends laptop hard wired into the
router, never had a problem with the internet connection. Laptop is
running Windows XP Home Edition and I cannot get the machine to
connect. The local connection indicates a good connection. What do I
need to do to get the laptop back online? Thank You

Leave the network cables in, unplug the power cord from the modem, wait
about 60 seconds, plug in and wait. You can also try turning it of, then on
.....it has to reset itself.
