I had a motherboard failure, and replaced my Intel mb with a AMD motherboard. XP would not boot. I am installing a new hard drive and I am installing it with Windows 7 pro. 32bit. I am installing my original xp drive as my third drive, cd is second. My question is should I connect the xp drive before or after I install Windows 7? I am trying to save the text and pictures on the xp drive.

Solution
install it after win 7 is up and running. win 7 will access it as simple data once it is installed. then you just copy and paste whatever you want to keep to another drive and then format the old xp drive.

now you have what you need from it and can use the drive for another purpose.
