xp pro 64 edition

do you have to get this edition to run properly on an athlon 64 processor or to get the full potential out of the processor.

I have also heard bad things about this edition regarding gliches, is this true.

and. Do most games run on this edition

I'm using it right now. Most games work. I play NFS, Splinter Cell, Falcon, Q4, D3.

Funny enough MS doesn't have wireless KBMouse drivers for X64, but most brand name stuff has drivers. I haven't seen any stability problems I can link to X64. Also the 64bit IE is much faster than IE32 and FireFox, but has no plugins and no toolbars.

I don't know if it's faster or slower with 32bit code, but 64bit code is much faster so when 64bit Word or Photoshop comes out, there will be a marked difference.

You can use reular XP and get excellent speed because only the OS is 64bit with X64.

from numerous customer reviews I've seen there appears to be a marked lack of hardware drivers for the 64 bit OS. I think when I build my new system I'll simply buy the xp home...and possibly upgrade it to the 64 bit OS in a couple years maybe. of course that all depends on what kind of improvement is seen in linux by that time as I'm not really a big fan of microsoft at all!

Oh sweet, 64bit, Word!? Ive waited my whole life for this achievment, now ill be able to type 6 paragraphs in record time while also running a spell check and while having the paperclip guy tell me how to do it!

Mostly, the bad things are being said by people who don't know what they are talking about.

It is true that there are no 64bit drivers for many devices. However, all of the major motherboard makers have 64bit drivers for all of the devices builtin the motherboards, including NIC and audio devices.

All of the major motherboard chipset makers have 64bit drivers, including Intel, VIA, SiS, ATI, and Nvidia.

If you have a no name pc part, then there may be no 64bit drivers, unless the device uses a chip by a manufacturer that has 64bit drivers. For example, Ralink is a maker of chips for wifi cards, and has 64bit drivers for its chips. Linksys uses Ralink chips in it version 4 of the Wireless-G USB adapter, and, using Ralink's 64bit drivers, it works in Windows x64. Linksys itself doesn't have 64bit drivers for any of its wifi products.

So, check around for 64bit driver availability. Don't believe the Know Nothings.

As for pc games, most will run very well in Windows x64, even though most are 32bit software. Far Cry and HalfLife2 now have 64bit versions that run very well in Win x64.

There're few pc games that won't run on Win x64.
