So there are many games in the early 2000's that don't seem to work well on more modern PC builds running later versions of Windows, even with the pesky Windows Compatibility tool. Even most older games from the Windows 97/98 era tend to run well on XP.

My question is, what are the maximum limitations to hardware running Windows XP, and even those era of games? I know that the 64 bit version of XP has a limitation of 4GB of RAM, but will GPU/CPU's need to be restricted as well? Motherboards?

Solution
32 bit XP has memory limitation, not 64 bit. And it's actually 3.5 GB, not 4.
As for GPU, any gtx 9xx or older will work with XP. Motherboards are more tricky, you need to check if it has XP drivers one by one. The last one I found with drivers were with H77 chipset.
