How big of a PSU do I need?

What about brand? How good would say a Xcase/Power Magic 500w PSU be?

Remember, the number is going to be the Minimun you need, I personally would recomend 20-25% more for headroom and future growth. When I put all the details of my rig in, it said I need at least 396Watts-I just upgraded to an Antec 550-as in just now.

lol that's thing's kinda not soo accurate, i can tell you right now, that the FX5200 doesn't drain nearly as much power as the FX59** cards.

For your system a decent 350watt from Enermax 380 from Antec would do the job. But it's always good to get something in the 400 range, the price for them isn't so high anymore.

Fortron Source 400W puts out more power than an Antec 430 and cost less than the Antec 380.

As I recall the Fortron Source 400W outputs around 460W, while the Antec True Power 430W puts out less than 450W. Since both power supplies are underrated, the stuff on the side is nearly meaningless. I tried to take out a FSP 350W with my system and couldn't even force it to reset, it just kept working.

It may be conservative, but better more power than not enough. If you read his stats-he has a ATI-9700 Pro, not FX-5200. I tried all his stuff in the "calculator" it came out about 430-450W.

Lmulder, you can do as you please, but I stand by my recommendation of a PSU to work with all your stuff (you certainly have a full computer) and lots of headroom. A Vantec 480 is the lowest I would go-If you have the money, do it right not cheap.

Nice, thanks all. I went ahead a bought a 600w power supply just to be extremely safe. However, I'm sure it's well overrated after reading an article here and seeing 550w rated performing at less than 500... and it's not the greatest brand either but I got a great deal. Hopefully it works ok, if not I didn't spend too much money and I'll just buy a name brand one after, probably around the 480-550 range. I put all my stuff into the calculator and I got 496, so I figured above 500 for headroom. My ups battery backup is only rated at 500w though, how does that affect and correspond to having a 600w power supply in my computer?

I read his stats, i'm just saying that calculator thing doesn't seem that well made.

And 350watt quality psu is not conservative on that system.
