XP - reboots - sound card

I originally posted this question, but it took a lot of replys to get to the cause of the probelm, so I thought I would start over with just the relavent information.

I have an ASUS P4S333 motherboard with on-board sound, C-Media CMI8738 6-channel.

It works fine with Win98. When I updated to 2000, it causes the PC to reboot after about 23 hours. I went to XP, and it still reboots after 23 hours. If I turn my speakers on, I get "pong.......pong.......pong". It will play sound, but the pongs are still there.

I updated my bios and the audio driver to the XP driver listed on the ASUS website. No help. I then updated to the driver on Windows update. No help.

Anyone ever seen anything like this?

I haven't got any idea what the problem is, but the other member's here will probably be able to help more if you post your system specs. You could always disable the onboard sound and see if the problem persists. Or, you could disable it and get a sound card.

I did disable the on-board sound device and it cured the problem. I was just trying to see if there was a way I could use it, given it is supposed to be XP compliant.
