XP Settings Transfer

I'm about the reinstall Windows, and I'd like to know if there's a way to save some XP settings, such as icon assignments and the like. I'm a little afraid to copy some of the core hidden files due to a persistent error I receive now that I don't want to transfer over. Any help?

Run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard-

Start / Programs / Accessories / System Tools, then F&S Tw.
