after updating to sp2, my optical mouse stopped working. It is connected to a
usb port. How can I get it to work again?

Did you try reinstalling the software?

Is it connected to a USB Hub or a port on the computer. If connected to a
Hub, try connecting it directly to the computer.

As Jerry in this thread has recommended, if you had software specific to
this mouse previously installed, you might try reinstalling it or check the
manufacturer's website for updates compatible with XP SP2.

the usb port is on the computer and there was no software to install. The
manufacturer is microsoft. I could not find any software for it.

I found the problem. The software for the usb port had to be reinstalled.
