XP splash screen ends with solid color screen instead of Desktop.

HP a350n starts boot OK. The XP splash screen comes up and start loading XP. However, after about 10 to 15 seconds the splash screen turns into a solid color screen and just stays there. I can get into the safe mode and safe mode with networking by rebooting and they seem to work just fine within the limitations of the reduced files that are loaded in those modes.

I'd appreciate any comments on what causes XP to not load properly and how I might resolve the problem of the solid color screen during the XP loading. I tried to reset the computer to an earlier date using the Restore command but trying several previous dates did not solve the problem.

When you boot to safe, does it have a dump file of a crash anywhere? You could always check the crash dump file to see if it's actually a failed bluescreen

Start Menu> Control Panel > Administrative tools > Event Viewer > Application > Click the "Error" type event.

This will show all errors which have taken place during Windows XP's operation, and send me every error that's in there.

Con6612, No indication of a "dump file" when booting to safe mode with networking . Internet connections work OK in that mode.

I don't understand "no indication". Do you mean that it doesn't come up when you log on? Because that's not what happens. You have to check the folder. Log on Safe w/ Networking and go to http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html and download this. run it and show me if anything shows up during the time this has been happening. I've never seen this before, but I hope this is something that I can help you with.
