Hello

I have just upgraded from a AthlonXP to an Athlon 64 with a new motherboard and graphics card.

I was hoping I could just connect the HDD to the new board and XP would just start as normal but use basic drivers for the graphics card etc.

But, XP won't start at all. Instead it gets as far the the safe mode selection screen, if I then select to boot into safe mode it then scrolls a load of file names up the screen then reboots again to the safe mode screen.

Any Ideas.
Cheers

WW is right. I tried this sort of procedure years ago when I upgraded one of my first computers and learned the hard way that an already installed version of Windows is not able to automatically recognize all the new hardware and reconfigure itself accordingly. Reinstalling the OS is really your only choice.

Be prepared for the possibility that you will have to reinstall some of your other programs as well.
