I currently have an XP1800 which has been "modified" and runs at XP2600 speeds:-

The 2nd CPU down:-http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_AMD_CPUs_51.html

Will i get much more out of a Barton 2500(I would hope for a Min of 2100Mhz-with the extra cache then being the diff between CPU's)

In addition i can also get hold of a "Genuine" XP2600 for £80-would this have much headroom left for a good O'c-as i am not aware of the XP2600 being much of an O'Clocker?

Any opinions guys?

Well you should be able to get more out of the CPU... 2.2-3 GHz is the average OC of a T-bredB.

The average for a Barton XP2500+ would be 2.2 GHz.

But why do you want a new CPU... your current one should be fast enough.

Fair point. I have been using Crucial PC2700(1GB)-i have just placed an order for some Crucial PC3200(1GB).

I am running a KT400 based MSI board.

So in terms of o'clocking must i try and get to 200fsb(cpu) to gain any real benefit(of running the 2 in synch)?

I had a play with the FSB last night and got to 11*180-but started to hit stability issues after that.

Any suggestions-as i am far from an expert(butnot quite a noob!)

Well sync will always run faster the async memory... but 200MHz FSB might be very hard to reach with the KT400 as it doesn't even support all PC3200 memory.

If your temps are still OK the try a little VCore increasement and see if that makes the CPU run at 11*180... but it is quite possible that your motherboard or memory is holding you back at this moment.

Weve covered the CPU-and i agree with your sentiment
so bearing in mind ive just ordered the PC3200, is it worth a new Mobo (Nforce 2 Delta ) or would the gain be quite small?

Cheers for your help-BTW the MSI board isnt what i would call OC friendly(1.6V being the max selectable vcore-other than AUTO)

Well the gain would be a couple of % in most cases... not really worth the money IMHO. But you might be lucky enough to get your KT400 working with the PC3200 memory... and otherwise just run it at PC2700 at the strongest timings.

Cheers for that, Ive now orderd an Nforce 2 based board made by Soltek(FRN 75)-sposed to be a good OC'ers board, any opinions on that board-or the move to Nforce 2. I presume this will be a better setup-in terms of Pushing things farer.

Look i got the Barton 2500 and i got it to 183 FSB and its stable...if u wanna increas the MHZ some more u have to increas the Multyples from X11 to X12.5(thats what i'm gonna do)
u can read all about it in toms guide
i dont know is this forum allows giving links so pm me and i'll help u with it
