XP2700 vs. 2800

I am rather new to the "computer world" and just put together my first computer ever about 2 months ago. I decided to go with the AMD Athalon XP2700. In reading all of the reviews and specs between it and the 2800, the ONLY difference I noticed was the multiplyer (13.5 for 2800 as opposed to 13 for 2700). Are there any other differences that the 2800 Thoroughbred has??

I certainly don't need the extra speed, but why not have a 2800 for the price of a 2700 if I can, right? ;-)

Anyway, I was just curious. And if I CAN bump it up without heating the chip and/or losing any system stability, will I have to change any voltage values as well? Or can I just simply change the multiplyer to 13.5?

Thanks

If it wasn't for my horse, I would have never made it through that first year of college

As good as no difference and the XP2700+ should be easy to OC to XP2800+ levels, the multiplier should come unlocked.

You probably don't need to increase voltage because it is a small OC, and heat increase wont be that big too.

Well if you wanna get technical the 2800+ also has more cache than the 2700+. You can also oc the 2800+ to 3000+ speeds im sure since thats what Im doing with my 2500+.

Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.2GHz (12.5x177 @1.825v), Volcano 7 w/Smart Fan2, A7N8X Standard Rev. 1.06, Kingston HyperX PC3000 512MB @177MHz, Radeon 9700Pro, SB Live 5.1

I would overclock by FSB and not by multiplyer. Your system performance will be much better w/ the same CPU clock but a higher FSB. I would even lower the multiplyer and try the highest possible FSB.

AMD Athlon XP 2700+
Epox 8rda+
Thermaltake Volcano 7+
2x256 MB PC2700
Creative GeForce 4 Ti 4800 (4600 Chip)
Chieftech Case
WD 80GB/8MB HDD
16x48 DVD-ROM
20x10x32 Burner

Depends if it is the Barton or T-bredB XP2800+ as they exist both... and I think he's talking about the T-bredB as he says the multiplier is the only difference.
