Hi everyone, I have an old XPS 8100 which I really like and would like to keep using.
The processor is i7-860 with the default motherboard of this model, case etc. I have done the following changes through the years:
  • Changed the default PSU of 350 W into GAMEMAX ATX PSU GM-500G (500W)
  • Changed the default GPU of GTS 240 into AMD-7700 1G.
additions:
  • I added one 960G SSD. (my board only supports SATA II connections).
  • Increased the rams into 12G DDR3 rams.
  • Added one PCI WLAN card.
Hopefully this explains the full status of my PC. Now I would like to upgrade the GPU with a reasonable one. My first option is this variation of GTX 1650:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GeForce-Graphics-DisplayPort-Cooling/dp/B07QTMRJTK/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=GeForce+GTX+1650+GAMING+X+4G&qid=1571480188&sr=8-3

which I think it should work OK without changing any other thing in my PC. However, I found an AMD better card (RX 580) in a very close price, and after looking into several variations I think this one has low power consumption compared with the other:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-11265-01-20G-Radeon-backplate-Graphics/dp/B071Y7CKM2/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Sapphire+Radeon+Nitro++RX+580&qid=1571484366&s=computers&sr=1-1

However, I don't know if it will work on my PC with this PSU or not. Your help is really appropriated.

I'd look for a used gtx 1070
Thanks a lot Flayed for your interesting reply. I have never tried the used GPU before because usually there is no grantee .return rights, but this sounds interesting if I manage to find a reasonable priced gtx 1070. Do you think all gtx 1070 variation could work in my PC configurations? i.e. PSU and motherboard?

Yes a gtx 1070 only requires a 500W PSU, and should be fine in a gen 2 PCI-E x16 slot
