Question Xps 9333 screen problem

My dell xps 13 9333 has stopped working and I am at the end of my rope trying to fix it! One morning I turned it on and it wouldn't post. I got 8 beeps, meaning screen not working. The laptop had turned itself on that night which usually means a windows update. Anyway, it worked with an external monitor, so I rolled back the update, tried a linux live session (which made screen work fine) , reinstalled windows, reinstalled bios, did a cmos reset and nothing worked. Out of desperation I did another cmos reset and it suddenly worked perfectly for 3 weeks. The problem has then started again. The problem is i dont know which component to change (as its so old most parts can be bought pretty cheaply with patience). It cant be the screen or bios if it works in linux, it cant be the GPU if it works with monitor. If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful.

I should mention, when I reinstalled windows, it was a 6 month old version and then disabled updates.
