I own the XSPC D5 Phonton res/pump combo: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M23XVNL/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I want to upgrade my water cooling system from soft to hard tubing as well change out my case to a Thermaltake Core x71. The case doesn't have preset mounts like I've been using with my Fractal case.
Can I take apart the combo and use the D5 pump in the basement of the case and mount the res up to next to the 420mm front rad?
If I can, please recommend some good tops for the pump and how I should go on with mounting them separately. ( I'm still a noob at this water cooling. )

Solution

That pump top is original Laing D5 pump top which reported to be the slowest performing top for D5 pump, can't give you more suggestion if you haven't watch video tutorials. Your questions were

To upgrade/replace soft tube to hard tube = yes, there're hard tube such as what I've mentioned b4.
TT Core X71 = yes, it comes with pump bracket.
Mount pump top next to radiator = yes, Core X71 has ample space, you can use pump bracket or res holder.
The best D5 top = for multiple long loop EKWB dual D5 top (with two D5 pump), or Watercool Heatkiller D5 Tube for single D5.

Yes you can dismantle open loop kit, I suggest you watch more video tutorials on hard tube water cooling.

    ■ Make sure the fittings inner and outer diameter = tube ID/OD, i.e the 13mm ID of fitting for 13mm OD tube. EKWB hard tube fitting is 12mm ID, still fit 13mm OD PETG tube but I wouldn't recommend for 13mm OD brass, borosillicate glass and carbon tube.
    ■ If you are handy with hard tools, then working with heat gun and PETG bending kit will be piece of cake.
    ■ No pump bracket? the official TT Core X71 website informed that it comes with pump bracket. You can look for 120mm or 140mm fan adapter pump holder, the pump top should well-hold in place with that.
    ■ Watercool Heatkiller Tube is expensive but I consider that as the best looking res/pump top (glass res body, sturdy material, and LED strip on the strut).

So I can take apart the XSPC res and pump combo and use them as stand alone pump and res?
