It's because cpus haven't gotten much much faster in the last 10 years or so

intel has been adding cores, and making the clocks higher, but actual single core, per clock performance has stayed almost the same, with the biggest improvement being 4th-6th gen, with around 10%.

So you your i7 is abit slower than a current gen i3, which is super solid for gaming.
