As much as I am loyal to ATI, it bugs me that their new card ati 8500 only supports win me, 2k and xp. I believe that 98 S.E is a beter o/s than others ( I play games a lot). Looks like i'm going to be upgrading to win Me huh. Forget 2k, as decent as it is, it's not made for games and forget xp, As cool looking as it is, it's got somethings in it that bug me very much (yeah, you know what I'm talking about). May be this is wishfull thinking, but when the card hits the streets, they'll have drivers for 98 as well. Crossin my fingers.

Win ME = Win 9x

Win 98 = Win 9x

good chance it should work. Well Microsoft is dumping Win9x for Win NT.

Nice Nvidia and ATi users get a Cookie.... Yummy

well, we all know the deal with ati and it's win nt (2k and xp) driver situation. May be this is a blessing in disguise. May be the Ati driver people will now solely concentrate on one kernel and make kick asSs drivers for the 8500.

when drivers are done right, Windows 2000 runs games faster than Win9x... for example, the Kyro drivers actually run faster in Win2k than in Win98SE. That's what I saw in a comparison article the other day. And I run a K2 in Win2k and it rocks.

but like you said, the question is, will the Radeon 8500 (and 7500) have excellent Win2K drivers? I sure hope so... If not, I'll have to wait for KyroIII sometime next year... GF3 isn't an option...

"Win2k runs games better. More stable. Faster..."
More stable - yes
FASTER ? - I could argue that with benchmark numbers.
But the question was (since he uses Win98 for games)
will 8500 support Win98?

Juin are you Quebecois (from Quebec, Canada)? I'm Canadian but I'm from Ontario. Isn't ATI's main headquarters in Thornhill, Ontario? That's about a 15minute drive from where I live.

Who is the dipstick that told you the 8500 won't support Win98? It WILL support Win 98SE, it WILL NOT support Win 95. Go to ATI's site, they talk all about what is supported, and what is not.

Were did you hear that nasty rumor? If the Radeon 8500 did not support 98, then ATI would be eliminating more than half their posible customers. This does not make since from a business standpoint. Not everyone has the latest and greatest (maybe) OS installed on thier machine so limiting the drivers to no even supporting 95 may give ATI some problems (although most power users haven't used 95 in years:).

If it works for you then don't fix it.
