Well the title says it all: I went to sleep last night and woke up today with the Y H N ? 6 keys not working. Only reason I can write this is because of the virtual keyboard from System Preferences.

Any advice? I find it hard to be a coincidence, why those 4 specifically?

Solution
It's a hardware problem. The reason it is those particular keys is that they are all connected to the same wire (the keyboard is a sort of grid, with each key being connected to a particular combination of horizontal and vertical wires). Has anything been spilt on the keyboard?

It could just be a loose or dirty connector, or it could need be a broken track, requiring a new keyboard. (I did actually manage to mend a keyboard with such a problem once using that metal paint intended for repairing the back window heater in an automobile, but it's very fiddly work.)

Edit: Actually, one other possibility that you might like to try: http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/keys-not-working-mbp-unibody.617555/
1) have you powered off and then powered on the computer? (static charge mucking things up?)
2) have you cleaned out the keyboard? (dust)
3) is something stuck under one of the keys? (something big physically sticking a key 'on')
4) it might just have gone bad. (it broke)

I had a problem with my Asus laptop - some of the F keys went down, the power lights on the wifi and power button stopped working as well. So - went on eBay, bought a replacement keyboard, and carefully opened and replaced the keyboard assembly for $20.00. Works fine now, and has worked fine for about a year and a half.
