Hello again,

Having installed the Y2K3 mod about a week ago, I've just got to say how
impressed I am with it.

Be that as it may, there are several things that are still bugging me with
OFP - I realise that nothing is ever perfect but ...

1. A rewrite of the behavioural scripts for vehicles is needed -
particularly tanks and helicopters. At the moment, when tanks come into
contact with the enemy they seem to go mad, tearing around the landscape and
spinning in circles. Can someone PLEASE come up with some code to alter
this. If tanks come into unexpected contact they will almost invariably fire
smoke pots and reverse, assess the opposition an then either attack, flank
or avoid. They will ALWAYS keep their frontal armour facing towards the
greatest threat. Tanks are heavy (no, really ?!), unless they're on tarmac
or
solid, dry ground they would not operate at the speeds currently seen in the
game. The pictures we've all seen of tanks hammering along, flying through
the air
and landing with a massive splash are for arms-sales people - any driver
that
subjected his crew to such a battering would get lynched !!.

2. Attack helicopters are stand-off weapons platforms. At the moment they
buzz around overhead like demented wasps - again can someone (cleverer than
me !) come up with a way to have apaches etc., operate at low level, use low
speed stealthy approaches and avoid climbing and whizzing about the moment
they come into contact.

3. Original BIS snipers had foliage attached to them - the various snipers
in Y2K3 have been modified to effectively be ordinary soldiers with sniper
rifles, complete with back packs etc.. I have tried inserting the old sniper
character into the pbo folder, but the code is apparently overridden by the
mod files. The only one I can now get to work is the GRUsoldier pbo., which
I've had for ages.

4. Any soldier worth his salt will use foliage to enhance his (or nowadays,
her)
personal camouflage. The Y2K3 mod is crying out for someone to pick up on
this and provide the community with a set of modded soldiers with cammed
faces (The Royal Netherlands Marines pack does this quite well, but I can't
identify the code which makes this happen) and foliage - an additional
enhanced set of the excellent SUCH,BAS and /or HYK pbos would be great.

Well, that's my tuppence worth ... If anyone knows of scripts or addons that
address any of the above, I'd be grateful for your help. Please feel free to
comment.

I'd like to see snipers only fire once. Too many times I've seen them fire
over and over again until they hit. A real sniper would only fire once.
Then, after time as passed, he might fire again. The OFP snipers should be
more like that.

Well, nobody came you...you're a graduate of the AI Sniper School, aren't
ya?

Too true on the smokeless ammo! It's a nice effect introduced I assume by
ECP but I've fired all sorts in real life from L1A1 SLRs through to L85/L86
and a few AKs and M16s too and not one of them has propellent that produces
smoke like that! (unless you leave the barrel too oily) Still it is only a
game effect and I don't suppose it betrays you any more to the AI than your
shot already does. Different in MP of course but I've not played OFP online
since TJs used run SebNam most of the time.
