At 2:30 am on Labor Day, I finished a frustrated labor of ascension. The
RNG chose to be extremely stingy:
- I did not have magic resistance until my first wish in the Castle.
- Multiple thrones only provided genocide of cockatrices
- only one scroll of genocide for the Lich family
- 2 large shops of hardware full of bags, chests, boxes, and tin
openers, not much useful
- only two wands of teleportation in the entire dungeon

I will skip the usual summary. Lessons learned:
1. Don't fire arrows of unknown BUC status from the front door of the a
temple with a (co-aligned) priest inside. One cursed arrow into the orc;
three into the priest. I had to finish the priest off to get may stash back.
2. Poisoned arrows are very useful in the most interesting situations.
3. Don't get rid of your backup source of reflection; Rodney will steal
your primary reflection item. Then, you will watch all your wands and
rings disappear in bright explosions from lightning. The RNG only
provided 2 wands of teleportation; Moloch's minions gave me 2 less.
4. Don't carry a wand of digging in your inventory when making "the
run". Rodney will steal the wand; and you get to chase Rodney down 9
levels till the wand runs out.
5. Don't forget, next time, to put on your ring of +3 consitution when
you level up multiples times with potions of gain level.
6. Training to Expert with a boomerang is tedious; and still an
unfulfilled goal.
7. The RNG can be very stingy.
8. Don't wait till the last minute to use a wish on a ring of conflict.
If the RNG is stingy, waiting won't "make it so".
9. Luck is better than skill; found the altar on my first choice.
10. Better to have a half dozen arrows degraded by a disenchanter than
Stormbringer. Stormy was at +0 when I ascended.
11. Don't try to be tricky when Yeenaghou shows up -- just kill him.
Cost me my only amulet of life saving; and convinced me to burn a wish
on GDSM.

Although not trying to maintain conducts, failure of the RNG to provide
left me polyless, polyselfless, and I did not wish for any artifacts (I
needed basics).

That's scary. I hope you were able to use that ?oG on L (see below) before
the castle.

I thought Rodney only stole artifacts / invocation items. How did that
happen?

That's what wands are for. Especially /oCancel. Yes, I know, you don't
have them when you need them.

I wouldn't say that's a wasted wish. Not in the least.

Agreed.

I was curious about that myself. And I hope the Wizard of
Yendor had taken something that made it worth chasing down
nine levels.

Use your backup weapon on disenchanters (or a negatively
enchanted weapon, for laughs ;^). Or wands of death/
teleportation. Or spell of cancellation. Or any offensive wand.
Use that potion of paralysis you were saving for the Riders.

Hit him with spell/wand of slow monster or sleep and bravely
RUN AWAY! Or use any offensive spell, depending on the magic
cancellation of your armor all the while. Use charm/tame
monster. Elbereth!

All of this is, of course, in violent agreement with the
original poster.

(I really, *really* like the idea of hitting a disenchanter
with a negatively enchanted weapon:

<Your silver saber seems more effective.>

"I'm so grateful that you're improving my weapon that I'm going
to hit you with it again!")

Very much agreed.

A zoo on a previous level was rife with L...I figured that was the best
time to relieve the Dungeon of their presence.

Oh yeah: One Amulet of Yendor, one Long Bow of Diana, and a wand of
digging. I guess he wanted a trifecta.
