Currently I have a drakish monk, Jokubik, level 34, who just made the
leap over the Rift's edge. He had both of the corruptions, extremely
thin and very lean, that the Guide lists as prerequisites for avoiding
falling damage.

He still hit the bottom and lost a lot of equipment.

The only thing I can think of is that he was carrying around 20000
stones' worth of equipment at the time (very high Strength). But the
Guide does not list this as a factor in falling.

There's a bug in the formula used for calculating the probability of
falling down the rift, you ALWAYS fall down. You can also take a look at
http://adombugs.100free.com/#4

Before you enter the rift you should always store all the equipment you
don't need (especially potions) in a safe place.

What was your willpower? 99 ? If not, you fall. And even if so, you
fall, but damage to equipment is way less, almost none.
