I'm going up sokoban. Everything is fine. Then a gecko materialized in
the hallway while I'm pushing the rock. I ran out of darts to kill it
from my side of the boulder but I had three ebony wands. Now, this
is pretty early in the game so they are probably something pretty safe.
If I'm lucky they will be an attack type.

I fire. The boulder turns into a statue and the gecko turns into a white
dragon. He breathes, I die, end of story.

Why didnt you engrave ID them? Even if you were going for illiterate
conduct, you can still do that by writing a single X...

With three wands of the same type, why didn't you engrave-ID them? Fear
of loss of a single charge cannot have been the problem, if you have so
many.

Also, when you're already in Sokoban, you should have found some rocks
somewhere already which you could have gone back for (even if it was a
rock trap...

Oops It didn't occur to me.
