Hey all, I'm doing a full upgrade of my PC soon and one of the things I'm thinking of purchasing is a sound card, just to take some strain off of my CPU (even though it will be a A64 3700+ San Diego). I'm not looking to blow £80 on something like an X-FI, I was thinking more along the lines of £30 - £40, and using all 'spare' money on a 7900 GT. Would a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 7.1 EAX card be a good buy ? Does it have much of an advantage over standard on-board sound?

- Cheers.

A PCI sound card will always be better than onboard sound.

It will reduce CPU load (very slight, but it's better than nothing), and the quality of sound will be better, provided your speakers/headphones are of a sufficient quality.

I hear that the Audigy series is an excellent choice.

Not familiar with this card but until I got a Creative Audigy I always used Turtle Beech audio cards and they have all worked well. They also get could reviews and are less expensive that the better Creative cards. I don't play games but do listen to a lot of music. Think they'd be worth checing out.
