Ok guys, im close to buying my rig. Budget is quite tight, opting for an Asus m5a97 evo. Now do i get the 6300 with a £30 cooler, or do i get an 8320 with just stock cooling. Im in a dilemma. I wouldnt be upgrading for a few years at least. Mostly gaming, few other programms running aswell.

So should i buy a 6300 w/cooler and oc it, or a 8320 and keep it at stock for a few months before i bought a cooler? It will be paired with a r9 270.

For the price vs performance, Tom's recommends the 6300, and I have to agree. Performance is almost as good as the 8320 and it costs less. Get a good cpu cooler, overclock the cpu, and put the price difference between the 6300 and the 8320 into your video card selection.

Hey, yea im in two minds over the 6300/8320 still and have to order within 2 hours! the dilemma!

I could grab a 6300 and save £25 (and get a cpu cooler straight away&oc) or i could get the 8320 and stock cooling for a few weeks or more. I was mainly thinking as i wont be upgrading for a fair few years and money is tight.

Was thinking about bf4, and the games using more cores (such as watchdogs etc...)

Any more thoughts appreciated!

If the budget is so tight that a new cooler could push it over the edge, I'd say go for the FX-6300. I don't even know of any games yet that use more than the 6 cores the FX-6300 offers.

Hey Rationale, yea it's quite a decision to make really. I was thinking as i wont be upgrading for at least 3 years. Some of the reasons were with games such as bf4/new releases coming out. The mobo will be able to handle both chips oc'ed (m5a97 evo)

I could use the stock cooling if i got the 8320, but not sure as i have to get some headphones aswell (they broke just at a great time lol)

The 6300 is a great chip aswell for the money especially (about £80 here in the uk) but for £25 more its the 8core. Going with the 8core would leave me a bit broke, but with not upgrading for a while maybe that would be best. Such a decision and about 1 and half hours to get ordered in time with the other parts :p

Hey logain, i was unfortunately pushing myself for the 8320 let alone for the i5. I was considering it, but for having it unlocked i went with amd (i would be no higher than 1080p) I've ordered the mobo and a few other parts already and was just deciding on the 6300 or the 8core. I appreciate the input though man!

I could make the i5 cheaper yet. I can go less on motherboard.

hey logain, that's cool i appreciate it. I have though already ordered the m5a97 evo (Was £68) and half of the components and only had the cpu left to order as i was torn between the 6core or the 8core. The locked i5's i did look at heavily (such as the 4570 aswell) but decided to go amd as i managed to include a 270 in the build. So i left intel for now in favour of amd, for (hopefully) utilizing more cores.

It was mainly if i wanted to spend £25 more on the 8 core with stock cooling for a few weeks ish, or go for the 6300 and grab a cooler with it.

Thanks for replying logain! :)

would you go for the 8320 and use at stock for a while logain, or the 6300 with a cooler straight away logain? I should probably go for the 8320, its about £25 more atm on amazon, but would put buying other thtings off (such as a new mouse, headphones etc...) I would be mainly gaming on it, but with other programs running.

Get the FX 8320 now, get a coolermaster hyper T4 later. It is a close cousin of the hyper 212, but can use the stock mounting bracket on the motherboard when using it on AMD. Even on stock cooler, you can bump the multiplier to 20 and get FX 8350 speeds.

Yes... The 8320 is great and it performs just the same as the 8350!

Only if overclocked. Otherwise the 8350 has a direct performance boost is a result of its higher clock.

I agree it's not worth the cost, I was just pointing out that the FX-8320 isn't actually identical to the 8350 without overclocking, since that was what the previous person made it sound like and it could be misleading to people who're browsing looking for CPUs.

Thanks for the replies guys. I went for the 8320 in the end and to use the stock cooler for a few weeks, i ordered it within 10 minutes of next day delivery ;) It was a tough choice as the 6300 is a nice chip and probably could of got about 4.5ish on that, i'm pretty sure that would in no way bottleneck a 270 though ;) But the 2 extra cores and not upgrading for a few years with hopefully new games in mind it will last a fair while! :) I agree the 8320 is the best for the money out of the 8320/50, the 6300 was very tempting at only £80 aswell for what you get.

I will have it paired with an ASUS M5A97 evo, so hopefully will get a nice oc on it when i get a cooler.
