Yet another "help me build a gaming rig"

Hi all,

I just wrote a massive post, but it was just ramblings.

So far, I've decided on the following, but I am open to suggestions:

I don't really have a budget, as I have a bit of extra cash at the moment, but I don't want to go crazy - £700/$1100 or so would be pretty good, but can go more/will happily go less. This is just theoretical at the moment, anyways! I have never built anything other than intel, but if you have a better suggestion I'm up for listening.

Firstly;

CPU was between the 3570 or the 4670, I went for the 4670 as it was only $20 more. Good choice?
Yes. Go with newer tech.
Motherboard - no idea here, read some reviews, this seems OK. Thoughts?

RAM - Open to pretty much anything, but this seemed OK.
Also seems fine.

Where do I head next?

CPU Cooler: Never had to consider this before, usually bought a bundle. Help please.
You could just stick with included cooler. If it's too loud, you could go with CoolerMaster 212 Evo.

Cooling in general: Some general cooling suggestions would be very much appreciated! Not interested in liquid
Front and side fans are intake, Rear and top fans are exhaust. You don't need to fill every fan mount.

Storage: I have an old WD5000AAKS 500GB SATAII I can recycle, but may consider an SSD for the OS. This is low priority for me.
Try SSD, you won't go back. Don't need to go bananas. I used a 64GB Agility 3 for a long time before moving up to a 256GB Vertex 4. Use the 500GB for media storage or any other overflow.

Video card: Not a clue here. Help? I currently have a XFX HD 5850 1GB Black Edition which I bought for a very good price, but no idea what to get now!
Don't know what to suggest- I still use a HD6950 and it works perfectly fine for me and the games I play. GTX760? HD7950?

Case: I've never been into flashy cases, I can probably recycle my *really cheap* current case - is there any advantage to paying more money for a case?
Technically a good case would provide better airflow as well as run more quietly. And also, it would probably have USB3.0 headers.

PSU: I have a Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 600W currently, I can upgrade if MOAR POWER is needed, though.
Nope, no more power is needed. I run a core i7-4770K, 3 drives, wireless, etc on a 550W Seasonic.

Optical drive: Have a DVD drive, never use it, will recycle current or buy a cheap alternative if needed.
Just recycle it so long as it's SATA.

OS: Windows 8.1 64bit Pro, already have it.
Cool.

Displays: Recently bought a new monitor, don't need a third/to upgrade.

Peripherals: Have a Logitech G510 keyboard, Logitech G400 mouse, Razer Kraken headset - more than happy with these, no need to change.

Wireless: I have a wireless NIC I can use, but I use powerplugs and I'm in love with them, so absolutely no need.

How's this, folks?

Not decided on a case - will happily re-use my current budget case, unless getting a new case will make a big difference.

QUESTIONS

- My current PSU is a 600W and is fairly silent, should be enough for the above, correct?
- CPU/Mobo/video card - I'm not sold on these, but they seem decent enough. If the 760 is good enough, are there any better brands/flavours I can get? Is 2GB enough these days?
- I know little about cooling, will it be enough?
- Do I need a new case (see above paragraph)
- Any suggestions?

You could drop it to 8GB if you are only gaming.

Case, you could upgrade the case if you want something prettier with USB 3.0 front ports.

The r9 290 is just a place holder for what you can get. Its a good card. You could just use the 5850 with the build and then see if you want to upgrade.

Thanks pal -- I've made a partspicker just above your post (about the same time), the main difference I see is the graphics card - yours is a bit more pricey, is the difference in performance worth it?

Storage isn't an issue at the moment, I only have a 500GB drive (and an external 1TB) and its nowhere near capacity. I'm thinking a smaller SSD for the OS, and the 500GB for media.

8GB vs 16GB RAM: Yeah, I could drop it, I'll consider that - see how the rest prices up

Case: Not really an issue, I don't use front USB ports at all at the moment, and I've customised it (read: stuck stickers on it) so it isn't as ugly heh! But I could change if people recommend

Check the SSD in my build - 250GB for 126 pounds.

This chart is what I use to check GPU power requirements, the 760 needs 500W so you are fine.

GPU depends on how much you want to spend, what you want it for.

- I know little about cooling, will it be enough? Should be fine.

- Do I need a new case (see above paragraph) - Do you want a new case? Old one will do fine. Cases are always a good thing to invest in if you upgrade, they usually last a few builds if you are happy with them.

I think I'll stick with the cheaper card, but consider adding a 2nd if it doesn't live up to expectations.

Any comments on the new one? May still drop RAM to 8GB, but will leave the 16GB in the price for now
