17th February, 2017 at time of this posting. This is my current system:

LGA 1150
i5 4670k
24 GB DDR3
gtx 970
3 Samsung EVO SSDs

I am about a day away from pulling the trigger on either a gtx1070 or 1080. Should I go ahead, or wait until AMD releases vega(I'm assuming it's about a month away?)

I only want to upgrade my card to be able to play games like FO4, Borderlands, Doom, Mass Effect Andromeda (eventually) in 4K.

I do realize I will need to purchase a 4k monitor also. That is irrelevant, assume I already have one (I don't want to get into a free-synch versus g-synch debate)

Would you buy today?
Wait for new AMD?
Wait for new AMD, assuming Nvidia will lower prices during this period?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

First off NVIDIA won't lower their prices because of AMD products, second of I feel like getting a 1080 would do you good if you want to play at ultra settings and 1440p / 4k. If you don't want to spend the extra money on a 4k monitor then just buy a GTX 1070 because both cards can run all the games you want to play at Ultra, it's the resolution that affects the gameplay the most.

As I said, 1440p = GTX 1070, 4K = GTX 1080
